THOUSANDS of boxes have been sent for children in Eastern Europe with gifts inside for Christmas.

Operation Christmas Child in Hereford saw more than 6,500 boxes collected from residents and organisations in Herefordshire, mid Wales and Shropshire.

The boxes contain a mixture of presents from items such as scarves, hats, washing items and stationery to a variety of toys.

Mary Moore from Credenhill has organised the warehouse in Rotherwas this year and for the past two years.

She has also acted as a volunteer for many years before than.

For the past month around 100 volunteers have checked each box to make sure they will be able to go through customs.

The boxes left on December 1 and will be given to children aged two to 14.
