CHILDREN from Wyeside Day Nursery have joined up with residents from a Hereford care home Coldwells House, based in Holmer, Hereford to participate in shared activity mornings to promote the emotional well-being of both the children and residents alike.

The residents of Coldwells House visit Wyeside Day Nursery, situated at 26 Eign Road every three weeks and take part in activities ranging from painting autumn leaves to junk modelling.

The partnership began in September when Wyeside was chosen by Coldwells House to participate in this pioneering new venture. Wyeside sought written permission from parents and the feedback from them was very positive, they felt this is a wonderful opportunity for their children to show meaningful relationships with the older members of the community.

Two of the residents have a background of working with young children, one as a school cook and one as a lunch time assistant and they have a lovely rapport with the children.

Sadie, the activity co-ordinator who accompanied the residents highlights the positive effect their visits are having, adding "It raises their mood and general well being".

The nursery practitioners report that these visits enhance children's learning by "giving the children the opportunity to share experiences with older people and they show

a deeper sense of empathy to others."

Wyeside are pleased that they have found a new way to connect with the local community and it is making a real difference to every one involved in the venture.
