ON November 11 the Bishop of Ludlow conducted a ceremony of dedication for the War Memorial in St Mary's churchyard, Bucknell.

Sylvia Meredith had visited the Rotary Club of Knighton and District as our guest speaker back in March to tell members about the campaign to raise funds to create a granite and slate memorial outside the main doors of the church.

The villagers, including relatives of the dead, felt the need for an outside memorial that can be seen at all times by locals and the many visitors who come to the area.

The church service and dedication was a very moving event with 17 children from the local school each placing a cross to commemorate one of the men of Bucknell who gave their life during two World Wars.

Rotarians Paul Barrett and Bruce Morgan were invited to attend the ceremony and placed a wooden cross on behalf of the club.

Rotarian Bruce said afterwards "We were proud to be able to represent the Knighton and District Rotary Club as we meet locally at the Baron and wanted to support the Bucknell community in some small way".
