THE council is looking for your views about plans for travellers' sites in the county.

Herefordshire Council has launched a consultation about plans for residential pitches and temporary stopping places for travellers and travelling showpeople.

Feedback from the six-week consultation will contribute towards the travellers’ sites development plan.

A site adjacent to the roundabout on A49 in Leominster is proposed to create a temporary stopping place of five pitches.

The proposed locations for further pitches are: Romany Way, Grafton, Hereford- to add one additional pitch on the site, which already has nine pitches; Orchard Caravan Park, Watery Lane in Lower Bullingham - to add two residential pitches to the 11-pitch site; Openfields Caravan Site in Bromyard - to add two pitches to the ten-pitch site; and the Pembridge Site - to add four pitches to the six-pitch site.

Philip Price, cabinet member for infrastructure, said: “This is a chance for the public and other interested parties to have their say on this vital component of the Herefordshire Local Plan, which will guide decisions on applications for new gypsy and traveller pitches and the potential for an authorised stopping place for those travelling through the county.

“Herefordshire Council has a priority to enable residents to live safe, healthy and independent lives. Ensuring the provision of good quality accommodation for gypsies and travellers will help to address the inequalities this community can face when accessing services such as housing, education and social care.”

There will be a public drop-in session at Leominster Library on November 23 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm for anyone who has questions about the development plan or the consultation. The document is also available to view at libraries across the county.

The consultation runs until midnight on December 18. To review and comment on the proposals visit www.herefordshire.gov.uk/traveller-sites-consultation
