For more than a decade The Wild Hare Club, Hereford’s long-running independent promoter, has been bringing an eclectic mix of musicians and other artists to the city and this autumn has scored another coup by booking acclaimed playwright, actor, screen-writer and BBC6 Music resident poet extraordinaire, Murray Lachlan Young.

Making his name in rock clubs and underground cabaret venues in London in the 1990s, Murray Lachlan Young signed to EMI in 1997 releasing the album Vice and Verse. Since then his performance clips have notched up over 250,000 hits on YouTube and he is well known for his numerous appearances and residencies on BBC Radio 2 Arts Show, Radio 4's Saturday Live, BBC Test Match Special, Newsnight and even The shipping forecast. No stranger to the big screen, Murray has appeared in About A Boy, Vatel and Plunkett & Maclaine. His first stage play, The Incomers, toured nationally to great acclaim and he has more recently co-written the screenplay for the latest film version of the Dylan Thomas classic: Under Milk Wood. Murray’s poem, marking the anniversary of Keith Richards falling out of a coconut tree was presented on a CD to the Rolling Stones’ guitarist by none other than their vocalist, Mick Jagger.

Fresh from a string of festival appearances this year - most recently as a special guest at Cerys Matthews The Good Life Festival - Murray will be appearing at an up-close and personal show at De Koffie Pot on Sunday, October 22. Drawing on and performing material from his new collection How Freakin’ Zeitgeist Are You? together with much loved live favourites known from his radio performances, Murray delivers a delightful romp into the bizarre facets of fame, fashion, people, politics and the vagaries of the space-time continuum. Throw in a mild erotic folk ballad and what the audience is presented with is a highly engaging hybrid mix of stand-up comedy with delightful commentaries on contemporary life, energised by a flamboyant, punchy wit and deepened by a brooding subtext and empathetic humour.
