THE world's most famous scientist visited a working observatory just over the border in Wales.

Professor Stephen Hawking was an unexpected visitor on the 4pm public tour at the Spaceguard Observatory near Knighton.

Proprietor, Jay Tate, had been briefed to expect a wheelchair user but not one of the most recognisable face in the space business.

The Spaceguard Centre is a working observatory, and the main source of information about near Earth objects in the UK.
