A SPEEDING motorist who was clocked doing an average of 95 miles per hour through Herefordshire was under the influence of drugs, a court heard.
Michael Ellis, 40, was stopped by police at junction two of the M50 motorway at Ledbury on July 26.
Amy Davies, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court, said that at 12.20am police officers on duty were overtaken by a Ford C-Max, which they followed for 1.5 miles recording him driving at an average speed of 95 miles per hour.
"During this time Ellis was weaving side to side in his lane so police stopped the vehicle," said Mrs Davies.
Police smelt a strong smell of cannabis coming from the defendant and a drug swipe test given was positive.
He gave a reading of 9.4ug/L per 100ml of blood of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (the active compound found in cannabis), the legal limit is two.
Ellis, of Cora Street, Barry, South Glamorgan, pleaded guilty to drug driving.
Chris Read, mitigating, said that Ellis didn't realise the drug was still in his system after consuming it several hours earlier and he didn't feel impaired.
Magistrates disqualified Ellis from driving for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay a £40 fine, £30 victim surcharge and £60 costs.
