ALMOST £3,000 was raised by Friends of Herefordshire Samaritans at a special open day at Lower Hope Gardens in Ullingswick.
Hundreds of guests attended the afternoon event, which was made possible through the generosity of the gardens’ owners – Clive and Sylvia Richards.
Gillie Bulmer, the fund-raising charity’s new president, paid special tribute to the large number of volunteers who staffed the event.
“Without their support and the food they provided, we certainly wouldn’t have raised as much money as we did,” she said.
Mrs Bulmer has recently assumed the Presidency in succession to Serena Crump, who stepped down after four years.
The next two Friends of Herefordshire Samaritans events will be a Wine Tasting Evening at Waitrose in Hereford on September 12 and the bi-annual Christmas Fair at The Chase Hotel in Ross-on-Wye on November 9.
