PART of the A49 southbound in Hereford will be closed for two months while work takes place in relation to the City Link Road.

From September 11 until November 10 Newtown Road will be closed to southbound traffic from the junction with Mortimer Road to the Pizza Hut roundabout both during the day and at night-time.

Northbound traffic will still be able to use this section and Edgar Street will still be open.

The section of Newtown Road from Widemarsh Street to Edgar Street (not A49) will also remain open, as will Farriers Way, and vehicles will be able to access the Pizza Hut roundabout from these two roads to get onto Edgar Street. These roads will have night-time closures in November (see below).

However, there will be a diversion route in place for southbound traffic which will go along Roman Road and down the A465 Aylestone Hill onto Commercial Road.

The closure is being put in place to widen the A49 Newtown Road and reconfigure the roundabout next to Pizza Hut. This is being done as part of the City Link Road development, which includes the area surrounding the road.

From November 5 to 11 the northbound lane between the Pizza Hut roundabout and Mortimer Road will be closed between 7pm to 7am.

From November 5 to 19, Farriers Way and Newtown Road (not A49) will be closed during the night between 7pm and 7am.

And from November 12 until November 19 four-way temporary traffic lights will be in operation on Newton roundabout.

The City Link Road will run between Commercial Road and Edgar Street and aims to be open by the end of the year.
