A CLUB which promotes the riding and conservation of old cycles was asked to promote a bike ride to support the Llandrindod Wells Cycle Festival.

The Hereford section of the Veteran Cycle Club took part in the bike ride, which fitted in with a long distance sportive and a children's ride.

David Twiddy, from the club, said: "Early cycle rides do not usually go more than 20 miles as restricted gearing and ageing components and in some cases ageing limbs put a limit on the distance to be covered.

"So with these things in mind a route to the Elan Valley Visitor Centre was selected."

He said the route wasn't perfect but provided some of the best stretches of cycling in the UK.

He added: "Think of those who rode the machines when new, they got around on poor roads and made the most of limited leisure time."
