HEREFORDSHIRE Council has withdrawn its application to remove a woman from Tesco roundabout.

Dean Hulse, prosecuting on behalf of the local authority, withdrew an application to force unauthorised camper to leave the Edgar Street roundabout in Hereford, stating that it was ‘no longer necessary’.

Samantha Lamputt, 33, from Hereford, was living on the roundabout to raise awareness over the problem of homelessness in the city after not having a home for seven months.

She appeared on remand at Hereford Magistrates Court today (Monday) after failing to appear at the same magistrates’ court last week.

Lamputt pleaded guilty to breaching her bail last week.

She pleaded not guilty today to using threatening or abusive words causing harm or distress at Jessica’s Sweet Shop in Eign Gate, Hereford on June 1.

She will face trial on that charge in November.

Chris Read, mitigating, said that the coverage Lamputt had attracted had made her a 'local celebrity' and that she breached her bail after getting her dates wrong.

He said that she had spent over 24 hours in custody for breaching her bail offence.

Magistrates ordered that her penalty for the breach had been served as time in custody.

She was released on unconditional bail.
