A MOUNTAIN rescue team was called in to help after a group of young walkers got stuck while climbing in the Black Mountains.

Longtown Mountain Rescue Team was called to Gospel Pass, near Hay on Wye, last Tuesday (July 18) after the group from Slough became caught while ascending the north-east side of Twmpa.

The group had been there for a few hours and were cold and tired. Using ropes and harnesses, the team took them off the steep ground and escorted them back down to the road where they were met by their group leaders.

The team was also recently called in to assist the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust with a casualty, a 38-year-old mountain biker, near Llanvihangel Crucorney.

He was treated on scene and then winched from out of the woods by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter 187.

Luke Lewis, team leader of Longtown MRT said: “It’s been a busy few days but this is what we are there for. All the team members are volunteers with jobs and families and I’d like to pay tribute to their continuing dedication.”
