A CHARITY which offers support to anyone who has lost a baby during or shortly after pregnancy has received a donation of £2,200.

The Madison Shelbie Trust that offers bereavement support in Herefordshire and Worcestershire has received the money thanks to Ledbury’s former Mayor, Debbie Baker, who wanted to support local charities during her Mayoral year.

Cllr Baker said that presenting the money had been one of the highlights of her year.

She said: "We raised the fantastic amount by hosting a quiz, from my Civic Service, Raft Clothing Charity Event, Muse Cafe fundraising week, charity coffee mornings, donations from Ledbury Arts Society, NDP events, dog poo bags, Christmas lights, all the lads from Battle Heritage, Tales of the Empire Afternoon Tea by Janet Scriven, Tesco, and Ledbury Community Choir, who raised £1,400! There are so many people to thank and we offer our gratitude to all involved."

On receiving the cheque, Founder of The Madison Shelbie Trust, Sam Jones, said she was overwhelmed by the kindness from so many unsung heroes.

Her own experience of losing a child inspired Sam to set up the trust named in memory of her stillborn baby girl, which offers a wide range of services to help those affected by loss.

Sam and her small team, work closely with hospitals and other organisations and hopes eventually to obtain a purpose built premises for her work, but acknowledges this will be costly.
