ALLAN and Angela Lloyd, who moved mountains to successfully achieve Radiotherapy Cancer Treatment at Hereford County Hospital with their high profile `Cut the Cancer Misery Miles` Campaign, are now taking up a further challenge.

To celebrate the Kington couple’s 60th wedding anniversary, Allan, now aged over 80, is proposing to ascend six Welsh Mountain peaks during August to raise awareness and support for Hereford’s St Michael’s Hospice.

He said “Supporting St Michael’s is a natural progression.

“During the last campaign, after Angela had successfully undergone life-saving cancer treatment, she was by my side at all times.

“Sadly, advanced dementia means she is at present living in a Hereford Residential Home.

“I wanted a further challenge that had a special significance and would support a charity that means a great deal to both of us.”

On the actual date of their Diamond Wedding Anniversary – August 15 – Allan accompanied by a team from St Michael’s Hospice, will appropriately scale the lowest of the six peaks at 2,907 feet, Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons.

Back in 1957 Allan proposed to Angela on Battle Hill overlooking the twin peaks of the Brecon Beacons.

Paddy Nugent, from St Michael’s Hospice, stated that “Allan and Angela have already given tremendous support to the hospice by their `Reaching out for Radnorshire Campaign`, and we wish him every success in this new challenge.

“Six Welsh peaks will be a wonderfully romantic gesture, and I’m sure it will touch the hearts within the hospice community,” added Mr Nugent.

The other listed Welsh peaks will include: Snowdon – Yr Wyddfa 3,560 feet, Carnedd Llewelyn 3,491 feet, Glyder Fawr 3,283 feet, Aran Fawddwy 2,969 feet, and Cader Idris – Pen y Gadair 2,930 feet, averaging well over 3,000 feet per ascent. Each climb will be verified and photographed by an independent witness.
