THE children of Ewyas Harold Primary School 'left their mark' for future generations in June 2001, following the replacement of the Prill Road Bridge in the heart of the village.

Herefordshire Council aided the major enhancement scheme and the school was given the opportunity to place a time capsule behind the commemoration stone in one of the pillars.

Because lottery funding was unavailable to the parish council, the organisation re-considered their approach to the task of much needed environmental improvement to the area.

The partnership scheme agreed with the highways department at Herefordshire Council to provide the labour and the parish council would pay for materials and the block paving, which is likely to cost in the region of £7,000.

Many organisations, groups and residents supported the scheme including the WI who donated the seat and funds were also raised from a village event.

The school welcomed the idea of contributing to the scheme and the time capsule contained photographs and work from all four classes.

The children included self-portraits, and creative writing about early 21st century life and future predictions of what it will be like in 50 years time.

Once the capsule was in place, the cavity was sealed and children left their fingerprints in the mortar to add a personal touch.
