A PLAN to allow cyclists to ride the "wrong way" up a one way Hereford city centre street has been proposed.

Herefordshire Council is launching a consultation on plans for St Owen Street, which will be on display in the Town Hall next Wednesday from midday until 7pm.

The proposals include a contraflow system for cyclists who currently have to travel along Bath Street and the inner ring road to get to the city centre.

The plans also have more defined parking bays on St Owen Street and to add parallel parking bays on the Shirehall side of the road.

Councillor Paul Rone, cabinet member for roads, said: “The refurbishment of the city centre is ongoing and has improved the look and feel of High Street, achieving a consistent aesthetic with Old Market.

“To further enhance accessibility and safety in the city we are unveiling plans to improve the environment for pedestrians and cyclists in St Owen Street.

“Improving the city for shoppers, visitors and those living and working in Hereford is a priority for the council which ties in with wider regeneration plans across the whole city.”

The consultation will run until August 30. The exhibition can be accessed online from July 19 via herefordshire.gov.uk
