A WEEKEND of fine summer weather helped draw visitors to the 'busiest ever' Shobdon Food and Flying Festival.

The popular event took place on Saturday and Sunday, with crowds turning out in huge numbers to try and buy some of the food and drink produced and sold in Herefordshire and the surrounding areas.

As well as showcasing the best local gastronomy, the event also featured a host of aviation attractions, arts and crafts, demonstrations and live music.

Matt Teale, one of the organisers, said the event was the busiest yet and credits the glorious sunshine throughout the weekend.

He said: "People came out in their floods. Saturday was really busy but Sunday topped it. So it was just incredible. I can confidently say it was our busiest yet. There was a lovely atmosphere."

Howard Middleton from the Great British Bake Off also took part in a cookery demonstration, along with a number of county chefs.

The airfield, where the event took place, was also the busiest it has been since the Second World War when it was a glider training base.

Two people who trained at the site in 1944 were just some of the many visitors throughout the weekend.

Half of the money taken will go to Herefordshire Aero Club and the other 50 per cent will be given away to charities or local good causes.

Mr Teale added: "Thanks to our volunteers, everyone that came and our sponsors Bestparks – we couldn't do it without them."

Glenn Jones, owner of Discover Bestparks at Pearl Lake Shobdon and main sponsor of the festival, said: "I'm really proud to be the main sponsor of such a successful event. Credit goes to the organising team and Herefordshire Aero Club for making it such an enjoyable weekend."
