A MOTHER has said she is 'very glad' her family discovered Megan Baker House because of the way the charity changed the life of her young son.

As a toddler, Jackson Tillings fell over so often that his parents had to invest in a 'Thud Guard' helmet for him.

It wasn’t until pre-school that he was diagnosed with ‘low muscle tone’ and discovered he needed glasses before later being referred to Birmingham Children's Hospital where he was diagnosed with dyspraxia.

Jack's mum, Abbi Tilling, said: "I was very worried as I had never heard of Dyspraxia so read every book in the library on the subject and joined the Dyspraxia Foundation.

"Our turning point four years ago was being told about Megan Baker House by another parent at the Dizz Kids Dyspraxia Activity Group in Worcester.

"Our assessment session with Chloe was fantastic as she knew all about Dyspraxia and more importantly, really understood what life was life for a child struggling with Dyslexia and all the challenges that life throws up.

"I was thrilled to be offered a place straight away and the most amazing part of it was that there was no charge for Jack to come. I was committing to a two-hour round trip from Worcester to Leominster with two hours to kill while Jack did his session but I felt it was worth it and I was proved right.

"Four years later and we are still doing that weekly drive. Jack is now 10 and loves football, ju-jitsu and cricket and is incredibly competitive (just like his father).

"He is able to hold his own with his peer group and in some areas he has an advantage because of the broad range of skills he has been taught at Megan Baker House.

"He is a much more confident child now, but still does have a way to go, the life skills he has learnt at Megan Baker House have been invaluable as well as the increased core body strength just allowing him to sit securely on a seat at school, which is a basic thing but can be a barrier to learning.

"The staff and team that run Megan Baker House are all fantastic. They all get involved in the fundraising efforts and are always happy to offer advice and support when needed.

"I am very glad that we found Megan Baker House, when we did."
