A HEREFORD resident is calling for a tree outside her home to be cut down after she twisted her ankle when she tripped over its roots.
Outside Darkie Smith's home in Beattie Avenue the roots of a large tree have lifted up parts of the pavement.
Mrs Smith, 83, said: "I was going out to catch the bus up into town when I tripped on the root. It is dangerous.
"I fell right down on my face and twisted my ankle."
Mrs Smith, who lives with her husband, Amos, 84 and son, John, 47 said she would like to see the tree cut down as it is dangerous for other residents too.
Glenda Powell, a former councillor for the area, said Mrs Smith approached her to see if she could do anything to help.
Mrs Powell said: "Because of the position and the roots are pushing up the pavement, it does need removing."
A Herefordshire Council spokesman said: “Herefordshire Council, working in partnership with Balfour Beatty Living places, has not received any reports from members of the public regarding any exposed tree roots, or damage to the footway in Beattie Avenue in Hereford. An inspection will be taking place, and if any defects are found appropriate works will be arranged.”
