STOWE and Stanage WI celebrated the 95th anniversary of its founding with an afternoon tea for members and invited guests.

A wonderful spread was provided by Lorna’s of Presteigne, and Rene Morris made the celebration cake, which was decorated by Jo Packham.

President Margaret Brick gave a potted history of the WI from its beginnings in the school house at Stanage when members had to take it in turns to be warmed by the fire in the winter months.

At the June meeting reports were given on the County Show, in which good results were obtained in the craft section.

The quiz team was congratulated on winning jointly with Llanfair Waterdine WI. Plans were made for the August outing to the gardens at Hereford Cathedral.

The speaker, Ian Burgin, gave a wonderful Powerpoint presentation on Singapore, the Garden City. A successful state economically and socially, due to autocratic governing, it has become very green with gardens in every conceivable space, even on the outsides and roofs of major buildings.
