NINETEEN gardens will be open in Ross-on-Wye this weekend.

The open gardens weekend on June 24 and 25 is organised by the Friends of St Mary’s, a charity which links church and town to preserve the church for posterity.

The gardens are a mix of all sizes, some modern and some historic, and each with its own character.

Apart from two near John Kyrle High School, all the gardens are within easy walking distance of the event's car park and the town centre.

Gardens include the famous John Kyrle knot garden; the Old Gaol, and the former home of the playwright Dennis Potter.

Tickets (with guide books) can be bought on the day at the free event car park in The Avenue, HR9 5AW; at St Mary’s Church Hall, and at a stall on Wye St, above the Hope and Anchor Pub.

Refreshments will be available during the weekend at the Church Hall and at Morecambe Lodge, Archenfield Road. More details can be found at www.fosmross.org.uk.
