To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence, Michaelchurch Flicks in the Sticks is holding a special Bollywood Film Night on Saturday, June 17 at Escleyside Hall, when, with suppport from Arts Alive, they'll be screening a traditional Bollywood film, Devdas (PG) 2002 and the evening's entertainment will include a curry supper and some traditional dancing from the Dolloway dancers.

The Bollywood tradition is all about song, dance and music, exotic sets, fabulous costumes and this 'adult fairytale' form allows the audience to indulge and explore their fantasies of timeless love, romance and daring behaviour.

'Devdas' is a wonderful example of a Bollywood movie and it made Shah Rukh Khan a global superstar. In the film, his wish to marry his childhood love is denied because such a marriage would transgress the rules of traditional Indian society. and the marriage is forbidden by his high-class and privileged family.
