A PLAY area which has been a fixture in Leominster for several years could be set for an upgrade – with a zip wire included in proposed redevelopment plans.

Leominster Town Council is currently consulting on its proposals to refurbish the Sydonia play area and surrounding park area.

The plans, drawn up by HAGS SMP, include a zip line and a boulder seating area as the more traditional swings, slides and climbing wall.

The scheme also includes an outdoor fitness zone with a number of different stations to encourage people to get fit in the fresh air.

Paul Russell, Leominster Town Council clerk, said the council is looking to attract further funding for the scheme while consulting local residents on the plan.

He said there was a need to ensure the plans would not cause problems for people living in the area but at the same time bring a much-needed refurbishment to the community facility.

The scheme will continue to be shaped by the views of those responding to the council's consultation.

An exhibition on the plans will be on display at the council's offices at 11 Corn Square until Friday, June 23.

A final public consultation event will be held at Sydonia Park on Saturday, June 24 2017 from 12 noon to 2pm.
