LYING amid the grass and dandelion clocks of a spring meadow, this roe deer at perfect peace with its surroundings.
But the pricked ears give a clue that this notoriously shy creature is alert and ready to leap for cover at the first sound of danger.
The picture was taken by amateur photographer and wildlife enthusiast Cale Ingram at Tiddesley Wood, near Pershore.
Mr Ingram, who lives in Worcester, said: "I was walking along a path between the woods and Salters Lane, and the deer was sitting in an orchard between two lines of trees.
"We both looked at each other and spent about 30 seconds doing so, until the deer got up and ran off.
"Luckily, I am a keen birdwatcher so usually have my binoculars and camera with me and was able to take the photo."
