A 10-YEAR-old boy who died following a tragic accident will be remembered this weekend as his family take on a fundraising run in his honour.
Alfie Hyett was found unconscious by his mother in his bedroom in March of last year.
An inquest heard the youngster’s death was an accident following an “act of childhood curiosity or absent-mindedness”.
In his memory, Alfie’s sister, Billie, and mother, Louise Hembrow, will take on the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k this Sunday.
They are raising money for the Bodie Hodges Foundation – set up in memory of 10-month-old Bodie who died following a choking accident – which offers the use of a holiday home for bereaved families.
Louise, who used the lodge over the Christmas period, said: “I was able to use the holiday home for myself, my daughter and my family to have a break, in order to have time to reflect on what had happened.
It made Christmas Day so much easier because we weren’t around anything familiar, we were away.
“I am now raising money through a 10km run and a charity ball in September in order for the foundation to expand and to offer lots more support to bereaved families after the loss of a child.”
She said about Sunday’s run: “I’m a bit nervous but quite excited. We have got a teddy which I was given in hospital.
"One went in Alfie’s coffin, one is with me, so I will take that with us.”
