BROCKHAMPTON have welcomed Worcestershire star Daryl Mitchell into their squad they prepare for their assault on the Birmingham Premier Division.

The Herefordshire side regained their place in the top flight of club cricket after gaining promotion from Division One last season, finishing runner-up to Dorridge.

Chairman Roy Wargen is hoping for a mid-table finish with the help of 33-year-old, Evesham-born Mitchell who has scored more than 10,000 first-class runs for Worcestershire over the last 11 years.

Mitchell captained the county side for six years before losing his
role at the end of last year.

Medium pacer Mitchell, who is expected to make his debut at Wolverhampton on Saturday, could also prove a vital wicket-taker for
Brockhampton, chalking up 22 first-class wickets in his career.

“We are hoping to get about 10 or 12 matches out of him but that
depends on Worcestershire as they pay his wages,” said Wargen.
“In the Premier league you can field first-class cricketers and we
have got him. It’s a really tough league because of the amount of
professional cricketers.

"It is the highest level of club cricket and just below the county standard.
“We would love to finish mid-table but know it will be tough.”

Brockhampton also boast the signing of overseas international Dinusha Fernando. The 37-year-old Sri Lankan international boasts more than 5,200 first-class runs from 145 matches.

Fernando had an immediate impact for Brockhampton when he hit 110 from 107 balls as his side beat Wolverhampton in a six-wicket victory to win the Graham Williamson Trophy Plate clash on Saturday.

Wolverhampton won the toss and elected to bat, finishing 227-7
off the allotted 40 overs.

In response, the Badgers’ Tom Austwick hit 46 and Fernando’ s
century saw them reach their target with 14 balls remaining.
