WESTFIELDS left it late to avoid a shock defeat at the hands of basement side Tividale.

Aidan Thomas' late leveller helped save Sean Edwards' blushes as his side came back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw.

Relegated Tividale were without a win in 15 games, a run which stretches back to January, but were minutes away from a home victory at The Beeches.

Westfields got off to a dream start but were guilty of some poor finishing when Thomas went round the Tividale keeper in the fifth minute but shot wide.

It was against the run of play that Tividale opened the scoring when James Febery misplaced a pass into the path of Elliott Hartley who ran 50 yards to beat the advancing goalkeeper to put his side ahead after 12 minutes.

The hosts doubled their advantage on 30 minutes when Fields' captain Phil Glover was penalised for hand-ball just outside the penalty area. Chris Bladen whipped the resulting free-kick over the wall to put the home side 2-0 ahead at the break.

After the interval Westfields made an immediate response and Alex Hainault, who had come on as substitute for Matt Reeve, fired home to reduce the arrears.

The substitute almost put his side level hitting the post moments later.

At the other end Tividale broke free and Keiron Blackburn in the Westfields goal produced a point-blank save to keep his side in the game.

Westfields eventually levelled with moments remaining when Thomas fired home through a ruck of players.
