LOCAL residents and Co-op, Hay-on-Wye have celebrated the announcement of a cash injection into the local community following the launch last September of the Co-op new membership scheme.

Using the scheme customers who have swiped their membership cards have helped to gain a community donation to the tune of £9913.19.

The three chosen charities were;

Hay-on-Wye School PTFA - A refurbished swimming pool with new heating system will help give pupils the enriched education every child deserves. Total raised £3276.27.

Hay and District Dial-a-Ride - Helping to minimise the effects of rural and social isolation, enabling people to live in their own homes for longer with the transport service. Total raised £3466.96

The association of Friends of Clyro School - To pay for an artist to come into the school and provide memorable and exciting experiences for children. Total raised £3169.96.

Gareth Ratcliffe team manager in Hay Co-op said. "The community is very special to us as a business and we understand how difficult it is for local groups when it comes to raising funds. Thanks to everyone who took part in swiping their membership cards. If anyone would like to join the Co-op you can do so next time you are in store for just £1 and you will be able to help the community get the benefits of membership. We have selected three groups for the next round of funding they are Clifford PTFA, Michaelchurch Preschool and South Powys branch Parkinson."
