A HEREFORD couple who first met in Cardiff after the war have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Brian Davies, 94 and his wife, Mary, 93 got married in Cardiff on March 15, 1947.

Mr Davies served as a pilot in the RAF during the war and when he returned to the Welsh city they married.

Following the war they lived in Cardiff for a while before moving around the country to Cornwall, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Kent and East Sussex and Somerset.

They ran Post Offices together in Westbury-sub-Mendip and Bristol.

They moved to Winchester Avenue in Tupsley, Hereford in 1988 when they retired.

Mr Davies said he had wanted to move to the county for a long time: "When I qualified as a pilot I was posted to Shobdon and I fell in love with the Herefordshire countryside."

They have two daughters, Patricia and Ann, and five grandchildren and one great grandson.

Until recently Mr Davies was the president of the Aircrew Association in Hereford.

And the secret to a happy marriage? He said: "Tolerance. Never go to sleep on a dispute. Treat each other as you would expect to be treated yourself."
