A PLANNING application for a small scale gas fire energy reserve facility has been withdrawn.

The applicant, Gary Poole of STOR 112 Ltd in Street, Somerset wanted to build a 10m-high engine hall with up to 10 chimneys with a height of 13m in Stone Street, Madley.

The station could have provided up to 20MW to support the provision of local power demand during peak periods. This is enough electricity to power 4,861 homes.

Residents objected to the plans due to noise and air pollution concerns.

The applicant's agent wrote to Herefordshire Council's planning department to say they are withdrawing the application for the time being as the highways officer advised that she would be unwilling to support the application with the current access proposals.

The agent added: "In light of this, I can confirm that we would like to formally withdraw the application so that we can investigate alternative access options for the site with the intention of re-submitting the application using a revised access in time to qualify for the re-submission without requiring a new application fee. We will also investigate the possibility of lowering the building height slightly."
