A RETIRED woman has spent six years researching and writing a book about the history of the Hereford street she lives on.

Win Morgan-Brewer moved to Foley Street in 1977 and her love of researching history has led to her producing a 160-page book featuring every house on the street and its occupants.

Using her local knowledge, information from neighbours, electoral roles, censors, directories, newspapers and archives Win has built a picture of the history and previous owners of every building on the street.

After previously researching her family history Win decided to take-up writing as her retirement neared. In 2010 she started to delve into the history of her house and the people who occupied it.

The book gives the family history of people living at the houses including where people were born and where they have moved to.

It also tells stories of incidents and events that have happened on street. One of these was when Tracey Brewer's car was overturned by a passing lorry and written off.

"As I gathered more information about my house I was gathering information on every house on the street," said Win.

"So I research every house on both sides of the street from when the first were built in the 1860s onwards. I have lived here 40 years and when I moved in there was hardly any traffic, now you can't get up the street except in the middle of the road.

"Most houses have been updated and all of them lost their railings during the war. A lot of neighbours have now moved away but one of the families currently living on Foley Street have done so for over 110 years

"It is the first time I have done anything like this and I've researched about 700 people who have lived in the street so it has been time consuming.

"Over the last year I have been spending eight hours a day on the book to get it finished."

Mrs Morgan-Brewer has already got ideas for her next book but says she plans to rest for six months before starting her next project.
