FOOD parcels collected by a county refugee support group have been delivered to grateful and hungry families in war-torn Syria.

The contents of the parcels were donated by people both within and outside of the county to the Ledbury Refugee Support and delivered by the group's partner aid agency, One Nation.

A spokesman for the Ledbury Support Group, which was set up by volunteers in September 2015, said: "There have been really amazing efforts from schools and church groups and community groups and individuals.

"It makes a difference and I think part of it as well is sending a message to our friends in Syria that we are a decent country and we care. I think it's really important for us as a society to be doing what we can.

"We just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have donated money and supplies from around Ledbury, and show them that their generosity is having a positive practical impact on the ground. This is brilliant."

Ledbury Refugee Support is holding a fundraising Syrian meal at Chez Pasqual in Ledbury on April 29.

There will be a buffet of authentic Middle Eastern food and music, with tickets costing £30.

Tickets are available from Handley Organics on Ledbury's High Street or by calling 01531 631136.
