THE future of the former Holme Lacy Primary School is under discussion during a council consultation.

The school in the village of Holme Lacy closed in December 2012 after pupil numbers dwindled.

From autumn the following year, the buildings and playing fields were used by the Robert Owen Academy, before the school moved to Blackfriars Street in Hereford in September 2014.

However, the new school continued to use the site until the end of their lease in August 2015, but the buildings or playing fields have not been used since.

Herefordshire Council is currently consulting on a proposal to lift the restrictive education covenants from the land and playing fields so it can sell or redevelop the land.

The council wants to invest in all schools in the county through a School Capital Investment Strategy, which outlines the improvements required around the county including relocating and extending school buildings.

The council is looking to fund identified projects using money from land sales, schools contributions, Section 106/CIL contributions from developers, council borrowing, revenue funding, basic need funding, maintenance and LCVAP allocations (formulaic funding which is administered by the diocese).

It closed on March 29 and the results and a decision will be available by June.
