A PARENTS group who are raising money to keep their community swimming pool open have raised £475 by bag packing at a local supermarket.

Hay-on-Wye PTFA in partnership with Co-operative Supermarket in Newport Street, raised the money towards repairs at the swimming pool they took over from Powys County Council.

Hay Pool coordinator Jess Metcalfe said: “We would like to thank the Co-op for their ongoing support and allowing us to participate in bag packing on a busy Saturday to raise money to keep the pool open.

"It is an important part of the community and we are looking for funds to maintain and invest in the facility. If anybody is interested in renting the pool please follow us on Facebook.”

The Hay-on-Wye PTFA are aiming to raise £5,000 to help with the costs of keeping the facility open.

Gareth Ratcliffe, Team Manager for the Co-op said: “The community is very important to us and we are looking to work in partnership with local groups and organisations to support the community.

"It was a brilliant day and as always the children who helped were a credit to the school and the community. If any local group would like to discuss on how we can work together please contact the store.”

Hay school PTFA along with Hay Dial a Ride and Clyro PTFA are the present nominated local charities at the Co-Op which estimates to generate around £11,000 per funding pot.
