A MEDIEVAL festival is set to take place in Leominster this weekend.

The event, which takes place in and around the Priory Church, will commemorate the original Anglo Saxon festival of Edward, King and Martyr which was held from the 10th century through to 1539.

It was one of only four Anglo Saxon festivals to be continued as a principal feast and festival in Leominster post-1066.

There will be medieval displays, demonstrations, festivities and fun together with a craft fayre, as well as experienced medieval re-enactors, dancers and musicians.

The re-enactors will put on displays and demonstrations including archery, willow weaving, button making, cooking and butter making, medieval medicine, weapons handling, and craft skills.

There will be an opportunity to have a go at longbow archery and see replica medieval ‘hand-gonnes’ in use, weather permitting.

There will also be medieval dance and music while the craft fayre will showcase local food producers and artisans with their handmade goods.

Entry to the event is free. It takes place on Saturday (March 18) between 10am and 4pm.
