AN independent shop selling organic products is expanding.

Fodder in Church Street is taking over the Outback classical record shop, which closed on March 10.

The new shop will be called Body Fodder and sell vitamins, minerals, organic and plant-based lifestyle skincare, organic make-up and offer complementary therapies in two treatment rooms upstairs.

Mark Hubbard, who owns the shop with his husband Phil Wilson, said: "In Church Street, businesses have to be destination business because of the effect of the new development.

"You have to have a reason to come here. The way I think we keep our head above water is we sell everything supermarkets don't.

"There are always one or two products people come to us for because we are the only place which stock that. There has also been a massive increase in organic food sales, which allowed us to consider doing this."

Fodder first opened in 1978 and Mark and Phil took over in September 2014.
