A PRIMARY school has been named within the top one percent in the country for mathematics and writing attainment.

Luston Primary School's key stage two SATs results were among the best in the country with all their children attaining the expected standard.

Recently the North Herefordshire school received a letter from Nick Gibb, minister of education for school standards, informing them that their results were in the top one per cent in England.

Headteacher Mary Freeman was delighted by the news.

She said: "I knew that our SATs results were good but I didn't know they were in the top one per cent.

"Our results have always been in the 90s but it's the first time we've had 100 per cent so we're thrilled.

"It reflects the enthusiasm of pupils to learn and the dedication of a hard working team of teaching and support staff.

"The school is basically a good place to be. The children work so hard and so do the staff."
