Hereford youngster captures public's imagination by applying for a job with Google

Chloe Bridgewater, from Whitecross in Hereford, wrote a letter to Sundar Pichai, the CEO of internet giant, Google, asking for a job.

The Lord Scudamore Academy pupil explained how she also wanted to work at a chocolate factory and swim in the Olympics. She added: "My dad said I can sit on bean bags and go down slides and ride go karts in a job in Google."

She said she liked computers and has a tablet, which she plays games on.

To her surprise, and her family's, she received a letter back from Mr Pichai just four days later.

He wrote: “I’m glad that you like computers and robots, and hope that you will continue to learn about technology.

"I think if you keep working hard and following your dreams, you can accomplish everything you set your mind to- from working at Google to swimming in the Olympics. I look forward to receiving your job application when you are finished with school.”

Chloe sent the letter after asking her dad, Andy Bridgewater, 37, what he did for a job. He explained that he sold refrigeration parts through the company, Fermod.

He said: "She asked where I would like to work and I said Google would be pretty cool and showed her the offices where there are slides and go karts.

"And she said, 'I want to work there.' So I said send your application across. I then explained what an application was and I said she should start by sending a letter."

Chloe has a five-year-old sister called Hollie, who she mentions in the letter and says is "also very clever."

Andy and his wife, Julie have been amazed at the response to their daughter's story.

A post on his LinkedIn page about the story has been viewed millions of times and Sky News and other media outlets have been in touch to cover the story.

Andy said: "Everyone is saying they are so impressed by Chloe's story."

Chloe and Hollie's grandfather is John Layton, who used to play for and then manage Hereford United.
