A COUPLE from mid Powys who have looked after children for over 30 years, have received a prestigious civic award.

Gina and Roy Lynch have been presented with a Silver Kite award from the chairman of Powys County Council in recognition of their long service as foster carers.

Mr and Mrs Lynch, who are from Knighton, have been foster carers for Powys County Council since 1982. The have cared for a wide variety of children but have specialised in providing placements for teenagers particularly males.

As their own family size has increased Gina and Roy's birth children have become more active in providing fostering support to children placed and now grandchildren are becoming more involved as well. They regularly have large family holidays and children placed are included in these.

Their current focus is in providing respite and short breaks for children but they have remained in contact with many of the young people they have previously cared for over the years.

Cllr Keith Tampin, chairman of Powys County Council, said: "I am delighted to honour Gina and Roy to recognise their long service.

"Not only have they opened up their homes to help others, but like many of our foster carers, they have shown the commitment to the continual development of skills needed to support children needing care."

Powys County Council urgently needs new foster carers to meet the needs of local children and young people. For further information and an informal chat contact the team on 01874 614035.
