THE founder of a Hereford-based tourism firm is in the running to receive a major award after reaching the top 10 in a national competition.

Liz Hill, founder of Rural Concierge, is in the top 10 of VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar competition, in conjunction with the Daily Mirror and is now seeking the county’s support in an online vote to make it to the top spot.

The competition recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry, and aims to reward the individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Ms Hill was nominated by Visit Herefordshire for her commitment to the industry and passion for the local area.

Her company, based at Hereford's Buttermarket, was established in 2013 when she spotted a gap in the market for local tourism information in Herefordshire.

The company arranges tailored trips and itineraries, including tips on how to “get off the beaten track”, and works closely with local businesses and coach companies.

In 2016, Liz won the Best Rural Tourism Business at the Rural Business Awards. She was also a finalist in the Chamber Business Awards in June 2016 for Small Business of the Year.

She said: “I am really happy to be nominated by Visit Herefordshire for the 2017 Tourism Superstar. This will help raise even more awareness nationally of Herefordshire and is great timing with Hereford’s bid for the City of Culture."

Voting is now open for the 2017 Tourism Superstar via the Daily Mirror website. The winner will be announced during English Tourism Week (Saturday, March 25 to Sunday, April 2.
