IT might have been cold this morning but one reader has provided a whole new perspective on winter weather.

Jeremy Jones sent in this photograph taken by his mother from the Victoria bridge in the winter of 1962 or 1963 – when it was cold enough to walk on water.

The photo shows one resident walking on a frozen River Wye, with the surrounding trees and banks covered in snow.

Mr Jones said: "In the background below the old Art School (now the Canoe Centre I believe) you can see where a slope of packed snow was disposed of by being pushed into the river.

"I remember this was snow that had been cleared off the city streets and was tipped off lorries in Quay Street and bulldozed from there down a slipway into the river where it slowly melted away."
