A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving following yesterday’s crash between a van and a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which killed a woman and gave ‘life threatening injuries’ to a child.

The incident happened on the A49, near to Northside Service Station, on the northern side of Dinmore Hill just after 3.30pm.

A silver Volkswagen Transporter van travelling towards Hereford was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction, towards Leominster.

The driver of the car, a woman, had suffered ‘extremely serious’ injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

From the car, a young girl was treated for serious head and abdominal injuries.

She was anaesthetised in order to stabilise her condition before being flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Unfortunately, her injuries are thought to be extremely serious.

A second girl, who was the front seat passenger, was treated for a leg injury and suspected chest injuries before being taken to Hereford County Hospital.

A 36-year-old man, from Wellington has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

West Mercia Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision, or either vehicle prior to the collision, to make contact with the Operation Patrol Unit at Hereford, quoting incident number 437s of November 14.
