A HEREFORD farmer has won a university award after being named placement student of the year.

Beth Hanson, 22, was awarded the Buccleuch Estates Prize at Harper Adams University.

The award is given to the Rural Enterprise and Land Management degree course student who had the best performance during an assessed industrial placement year.

Carrie De Silva, principal lecturer, said: “Beth completed a very successful placement year with Roger Parry & Co. in Shropshire.

“Beth comes from a mixed farm in Herefordshire, which includes cider orchards alongside the cattle, sheep and arable.

“Beth also took advantage of the opportunity of a study visit to one of our Chinese partner institutions, Beijing Agricultural University, in her second year."

Beth graduated this year with a first-class honours BSc Rural Enterprise and Land Management degree and has a graduate post as a trainee surveyor with Berrys in Herefordshire.
