ATTITUDES to childhood obesity will be the topic of a free public lecture in Hereford next month.
Hereford University Centre will be holding a session with Professor Derek Peters at Hereford & Ludlow College in Folley Lane on Wednesday, November 16.
The public lecture starting at 6.15pm will provide the most recent global and national figures for levels of overweight and obesity in children.
Using his research findings Professor Peters will propose a simple change to the procedures used in the National Child Measurement Programme that ought to provide more valid and reliable national, regional and school-level ‘size’ monitoring data.
Based on his research findings, he will explore how future sport and exercise professionals view ‘size’ in children and then using a short participation task, he will encourage the audience to consider their own implicit attitudes towards child ‘size’.
The event is free to attend but attendees should contact Julia Davis by email at: DavisJulia@hlcollege.ac.uk, or by telephone on 01432 365431.
