A GREYHOUND rescue charity is hoping to win £10,000 in a national competition after one of its volunteers walked 100 miles in less than 44 hours.

David Podmore, from Hereford, has been a supporter of the Forever Hounds Trust, formerly known as Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE), since homing his first greyhound from the trust in 2007.

In May he successfully completed the Dorset 100 walking challenge which had a total ascent for the route was 13,791 feet.

He successfully completed the 100 miles challenge in 43 hours and 30 minute, stopping for refreshments at various checkpoints along the route.

David said: "To build up stamina for the challenge I walked 12 miles home from work at least three times a week, then at weekends I would walk on average at least 25 miles.

"Leading up to the event I completed The Taith Torfaen another LDWA event which was 52 miles in 24 hours in April 2016."

The fundraiser has been voted into the top 10 shortlist of the Mountain Warehouse Charity Challenge which every year donates £10,000 to the charity that gains the most public votes.

David who is a volunteer support assistant at Forever Hounds Trust added: “I rescued my first greyhound from Forever Hounds Trust in 2007 and have been volunteering for them ever since.

"They do great work rescuing, rehabilitating and homing retired and abandoned Greyhounds & Lurchers across the country.”
