WORMELOW’S battle to avoid the drop from Worcestershire County League Division Two intensified after a six-wicket defeat against promotion-chasing Feckenham.

Despite the efforts of Tom Cutler (32), the returning Lee Watkins (25), Luke Jones (24) and Lachlan Hartley (21), the Herefordshire villagers could muster only 149-9 in 49 overs.

The total failed to test the Redditch club’s batsmen and, with Muhammad Idrees cracking a quick-fire 87, containing 15 fours and a six, the third-placed hosts romped to the target in 21 overs.

Wormelow picked up one point from the reverse and are just seven better off than second-bottom Enville with four matches remaining.

Bromyard, however, strengthened their chances of survival with a seven-wicket triumph at Enville.

The north Herefordshire club have leapfrogged Wormelow to move eighth in the table after bagging a 20-point haul.

Josh Van Rensburg (3-33), Pete Whittenbury (2-43) and Greg Leighton (2-52) combined to restrict Enville to 180-8 from 40 overs.

Opener James Owens hammered 72 from 61 deliveries before an unbroken fourth-wicket stand between George Leighton (46 not out) and Zahid Saeed (35 not out) secured Bromyard’s triumph in the 35th over.
