STORE Cattle 237: A good late summer entry which featured a good show of stronger farming cattle and also some smart younger sorts.

Steers topped at £1330 for a super homebred Angus steer, other strong feeding steers from £1080 to £1250, several good steers from £1175 to £1250.

Strong Hereford steers to £1200.

Heifers topped at £1270 for a pair of Charolais x, other stronger sorts £1030 to £1100 including a super team of homebred Blonde heifers at £1100.

Younger grazing cattle in tremendous demand despite the lack of grass in some areas.

Native bred cattle created good interest throughout the sale. Pure red Hereford steers, 13/17 months sold to £1000 with another bunch at £975 (190p-215p/kg).

Well bred continental x steers looked well sold and regularly from £800 to £1048 (210p-227p/kg).

Young stores were fewer in number but a bunch of Blue steers to £665 (242p/kg).

Other younger steers from £600 to £785 (220p-242p/kg).

Younger grazing heifers from £720 to £940 (205p-225p/kg), young heifers from £570 to £700 (215p-226p/kg).

Feeding bulls - 7: A small entry of 7 feeding bulls were chiefly 9/11 months in good order and sold from £805 to £900 (190p-210p/kg). More could be sold each week.

Beef type cows/heifers in or with calves - 24: The entry of 24 beef type cows/heifers with calves including 3 pedigree young Limousin cows all with bull calves sold to £2600 for a 2012 cow with others from £2350 to £2500.

The sale included a dispersal of 10 cows with Red Poll calves which sold to £1980 for an exceptional bull calf, others from £840 to £1270.

The Hereford cross heifers and 2nd calvers sold from £1140 to £1450.

Older cows with calves ranged from £1010 to £1330.

A Limousin bull at 15 months sold for £600 with a 9 year old at £1080.

Barren/feeding cows - 15: The entry of barren cows saw beef cows sell to £1050 for a heavy Hereford.

Other beef sorts from £760 to £1020 (106p-155p/kg).

Dairy sorts from £595 to £790 (99p-112p/kg).
