BUDDING female cricket stars are being invited to have free coaching at a Herefordshire club thanks to funding from a local community trust.

As part of its dedication to youth development Kington Cricket Club decided to apply for funding from the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust and received £720.00 to help them expand their offering, especially by promoting cricket to the young girls in the area.

Sandra Protheroe from the club said: “It is an exciting time for women’s cricket at the moment, with growing media coverage and support.

"Whilst we have always had some girls in our junior teams, we really wanted to encourage girls from all the age groups to come along and benefit from all the sport has to offer.

"The funding has enabled us to bring in a specialist coach to run free session for the girls, which we have promoted in local primary schools and within the club."

In addition to the sessions, the grant has also been used to hire Lady Hawkins Hall to provide a space for indoor training sessions and to purchase smart new cricket caps for all the junior club members.

The caps are badged with the logos of both the Kington Cricket Club and the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust.
