HOMEOWNERS in Hereford are being reminded to keep their property secure after cash and jewellery was stolen during a burglary last week.

The incident happened in the Broomy Hill area of the city between 11.10am and 2.10pm last Thursday.

Unknown offender(s) have gained access to a property by removing the wire securing a rear gate and entered through a small rear window that had been left slightly ajar by the occupants.

A terracotta pot on the patio area was broken and jewellery and an amount of cash was stolen.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard suspicious activity in the area at the time. If you do have information, please call police on 101 and quote incident number 484s of August 18.

Police are reminding residents to follow a number of simple steps to minimise the risk to their homes these include: locking doors while working in the garden; making sure doors are locked while sat watching television; closing windows in areas that are accessible to a thief such as a flat roof or rear window next to garden furniture that can be used as a climbing aid; locking up last thing at night and not assuming that someone in the house has already done it; closing downstairs windows or doors after they have been opened in hot weather; and securing all windows and doors if popping over to a neighbours house.
