OVER a hundred people attended the first Christian Bagley Memorial match which raised over £500 for charity.

Christian's brother Wayne Wood helped to organise the charity match played at Widemarsh Common on Saturday which included competitions and a barbecue.

The day raised a total of £530 Kiyan Prince Foundation which educates children against knife crime.

The event hosted by The Lads Club was the first in memory of Christian who was stabbed in the arm and back as he walked under Hunderton Bridge in Hereford on his way home from visiting his daughter on Father's Day last year.

His brother Wayne now wants to make the fundraiser an annual event.

He said: "It was quite a good day with the amount of people who turned up.

"We want to do the same thing next year but make it bigger and better. I want to get more people involved playing football with one long game lasting maybe eight hours with people swapping and changing during the day."

Wayne saw his side beat Mitch Lewis' 5-3 with the help of a wonder goal by Jake Gummery.

"We were the underdogs by miles before and despite me missing a penalty we won," added Wayne.

"It was a very competitive match and the opposition were getting a bit stressed towards the end."

A barbecue was running throughout the afternoon and other fundraisers included a raffle and tombola which local companies and Hereford FC donated prizes towards.

Christian's sister Paige Bagley also helped raise money by letting people throw cream pies at her face.
